The SCHS girls’ golf team held off Notre Dame Saturday to win its second tournament of the season.
The girls shot a 353, topping Notre Dame by one stroke for the title at the Montgomery County Invitational at the Mount Sterling Golf Course.
Eighth-grader Jordan Webb led the Lady Rockets with an 83.
“She played very well on a tough course,” SCHS Coach Anna Simpson said.”
Shannon Harover was next with an 85, Michaela Manley added an 86, and Madison Thomas rounded out the scores with a 99.
“The greens were very difficult to read, and the wind also created some problems,” Simpson said. “But we played well enough to pull out the win, and I was glad we did. I think it helped show the girls that even on an off day, if they stick with it and rely on their teammates, we can accomplish anything.”
The girls will travel to Bullitt East’s invitational this weekend at Tanglewood Golf Course in Taylorsville. Two top contenders in the region, Oldham County and Sacred Heart, will be at the tournament. However, Sacred Heart won’t be bringing its full team, much to Simpson’s dismay.
“It’s disappointing because I really like going head-to-head with one of the best [teams].”
