The SCHS girls’ soccer team took over in the second half and coasted to a 5-1 victory at North Bullitt on Wednesday.
The Samantha Orange got the Lady Rockets on the board first about 15 minutes into the game, and Maggie Goetzinger scored off a pass from Elizabeth Plante just a few minutes later to give Shelby a 2-0 lead.
“Orange did a nice job in her first start,” SCHS Coach Joe Turner said.
North Bullitt got a goal near the end of the half to close the gap to 2-1 at the break.
However, the Lady Rockets came out hot to start the second and quickly dashed the Lady Eagles’ upset hopes.
Within the first six minutes of the second half, Callie Greiner and Planate scored off assists from Shelby Vogel and Stacey Lanham, respectively.
Sarah Robinson then finished the scoring with a pointblank shot.
“We played pretty well, especially in the second half,” Turner said. “Our center mids [Vogel and Lanham] did a great job controlling the middle. I was again happy with our effort and energy. Our passing and spacing is getting better, but we still have things what we want to continue to work on.”
