The Shelby County girls’ softball team put up four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put Oldham County away 6-3 in the 8th Region Softball Tournament championship game Wednesday at the SCHS Athletic Complex.

With the bases loaded and a 2-1 lead, Dee Dee Davis ripped a shot down the left field line for a three-run triple. Davis then came scored on Haleigh LeCompte’s bunt.

“I was just thinking if it’s anywhere close, I’m hitting it,” Davis said.

Oldham scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but could get no closer than three.

“You go out thinking you just need three more runs for the region,” pitcher Haleigh LeCompte said. “But then they got a couple hits and scored two, and I just told them ‘OK, seriously, we need to buckle down and get these outs.”

After that, LeCompte forced two ground balls to shortstop Hannah Stucker to end the game.
