Lady Rockets open with a victory

The SHCS girls’ cross-country team opened the season Tuesday with a victory in the Clarksville (Ind.) High School Hokum Karem meet.

The triumph came from the combination of Caterina Karas and Taylor Webb. The meet had runners alternate each mile, and racing against other pairs as well as other teams.

Karas and Webb ran a 38:06, holding off a pair from Eastern High School by 21 seconds to win.

As a team, the Lady Rockets placed third out of seven schools with 44 points. Floyd Central (Ind.) won the meet.

Rounding out the Lady Rockets’ squad was Sarah Anderson/Lindsey Miller in 14th, Kaitlyn Eyle/Tiffany Sharber in 29th and Katie Melanson/Emily Downs in 31st.

The girls will be back in action Saturday when they play host to the Shelby County Invitational by East Middle School.
