The Shelby County girls' golf team finished the first round in 5th place with a 347, just 17 strokes off the lead of No. 1 Glasgow.
The Lady Rockets trail Glasgow, West Jessamine, Scott County and Russell County.
Candice Wiley leads Shelby County with a 1-over par 73, and is tied with North Hardin's Lydia Gumm for fourth individually. Emma Talley, of Caldwell County, is the leader after the first round with a 7-under 65.
Wiley was headed back to the practice range at about 12:30 p.m.
"I didn't hit my irons that well," she said. "They were OK, but I thought they were a little stiff. But I'm really glad we get to play 18 more holes."
Rounding out the Lady Rockets' scores was Michaela Manley - 88, Shannon Harover - 90, Jordan Webb - 96, and Madison Thomas - 104. The top 11 teams and 20 individuals not on a team made the cut.
The SCHS girls will tee off just after 1:30 CDT. Thomas is first for Shelby County with a 1:39 p.m. tee and following her is: Webb at 1:48 p.m., Harover at 1:57 p.m., Manley at 2:06 p.m. and Wiley at 2:15 p.m.
The teams and individuals that made the cut will play until dark, and play will resume Thursday morning at 7:45 a.m. CDT. The team and individual champions will be awarded then.
