The SCHS girls’ golf team got some payback against Sacred Heart on Monday.
The Valkyries had beaten Shelby County twice this season, but the Lady Rockets topped them, 173-204, at Weissinger Hills. Although Sacred Heart didn’t bring three of its usual top four, SCHS Coach Anna Simpson said it wouldn’t have mattered.
“I don’t think they would’ve been able to make up 31 strokes,” she said.
Michaela Manley led the Lady Rockets with a 40, Jordan Webb had a 43 and Shannon Harover added a 44. Madison Thomas rounded out the scoring with a 46.
This past weekend the Lady Rockets took first in the Central Hardin Invitational at the Lindsey Golf Course in Ft. Knox, with a team score of 346. Oldham County was second with a 354.
The girls won by bunching themselves near the top of the leaderboard. Manley again led the way with an 85, but the rest of the Lady Rockets were right on her heels. Webb finished with an 86, Harover an 87 and Thomas an 88.
“The round took a grueling seven-and-a-half hours,” Simpson said. “All the girls left some shots out there, but what can you expect with the long day, heat index of 96, and continuous start and stop play. It was a difficult day all around, and they really came through with the win over 20 other teams.”
