The Bard will attend Jefferson Community & Technical College’s Shelby County campus this fall.

The school has added a new theater course called “Shakesperience” to its lineup. Jack Wann, who was the featured speaker at Shelby County Community Theatre’s Shakespeare’s Birthday celebration in April, will teach the course. During that presentation by Wann, which was held at JCTC, too, about 40 students attended and wholeheartedly participated as he led them through a little background and engaged them in reading Shakespeare’s sonnets. Wann designed the new course to provide both reading and participation.

In addition to his academic credentials, Wann has extensive experience as a stage and film actor and director, and he serves as a visiting professor at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.

The new course, named ENG 231–Special Topics: Shakesperience. begins the week of Aug. 16 and will continue through Dec. 11. It will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:15-11:30 on campus.

Visiting and non-degree-seeking students are eligible, as well as those currently enrolled as degree-seeking. Tuition for the class will be $390 for 3-credit hours. (Auditors will pay the same amount.) Kentucky residents who are 65 and older are eligible to take classes tuition-free at any state institution of higher education.
