A man is dead after being shot by a homeowner during a burglary on Brown Avenue Saturday night, according to Kentucky State Police.

A press release by KSP said that Timothy Carpenter, Joshua Fast and David L. Fletcher entered a home on Brown Avenue in Shelbyville Saturday night at about 11:30 p.m.

Fletcher, 28, of La Grange, was shot once by the homeowner, Eric Reynolds, 23.

The press release said the three men fled from the scene in a pickup to get help for Fletcher but were unable to find the hospital. At 11:54 p.m., Shelby County Dispatch received a call from one of the men saying his friend had been shot.

Shelby County police found the men in the cab of a pickup on Mount Eden Road. Fletcher had died of a single gunshot wound.

Carpenter, 22, of La Grange and Fast, 22, of Crestwood, were charged with second-degree burglary. They were taken to the Shelby County Jail. Fast was released Sunday on a $15,000 surety bond. Carpenter is still in custody, under a $15,000 full cash bond. Natalie Wilson, with pre-trial services, said the judge specified a cash bond for Carpenter because he had a prior criminal record and Fast did not.

Carpenter is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday, Oct. 21 and Fast has a court date of Nov. 25.
