A local man has been arrested in what police say is a growing problem in Shelbyville - identity theft.
Walter S. Ramos, 24, of Shelbyville, was arrested Friday and charged with identity theft, second-degree forgery and no operator's license.
Shelbyville Police Officer Bruce Gentry said that Ramos, who has been awaiting deportation on an ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) detainer since his arrest, became a suspect in identity theft came to light after he was involved in a hit-and-run accident on that day.
