Mildred Thompson (left) and Elizabeth Miles of Shelbyville stood beside the Memorial Day slide of their uncle, Floyd Tatum, who was killed Oct. 7 during the battle of the Argonne Forest in France in 1918. Mr. and Mrs. Walter French of Louisville were also among the approximate 30 people who attended the Friends of Grove Hill presentation that included her great-uncle, Gilbert Ratcliff, also was killed in the Argonne battle.... one day before the Armistice was signed Nov. 11, 1918. The Friends of Grove Hill will have its next event June 21-22 when volunteers will clean and restore stones at the cemetery. Individuals wanting to be trained can contact Bonnie Burks Gray, 633-6941. There is no fee but a donation is appreciated. Work will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Participants need to remember to pack lunch.
