Festival of Trees
Amber Oaks Assisted Living will host its annual Festival of Trees and Christmas Open House from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday.  Events include food, fun, free picture with Santa, entertainment, giveaways and a silent auction of more than 50 trees and wreaths donated by local businesses, churches and friends of the community. Christmas Teen Fun Night
There will be a Christmas Teen Fun Night at 5:30-6:45 p.m. Thursday in the Shelby County Library’s Community Room. There will be ornament-making activities and refreshments. Reservations are needed for food purposes. Please call Sarahbeth Farabee at 633-3803 if planning to attend.
First Christian cantata
The Festival Choir of First Christian Church in Shelbyville, directed by Rev. David Pilkinton, will present Season of Joy – a Celtic Christmas Celebration at 7:30 p.m. Dec. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. The nursery will be available for each performance.  There is no charge for admission.
Santa visits Bagdad
Santa Claus will be at the Bagdad Ruritan Club from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. A free chili supper will be served that night.
Holiday party at Finchville Ruritan
Finchville Ruritan Club will have a children’s Christmas party from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Snacks will be served, and children will receive a gift from Santa. Door prizes will be drawn for children throughout the party. The Finchville Ruritan Club is located on KY 55.
Christmas bird count

Holiday crafts at Red Orchard Park

Christiansburg cantata

Santa Back Woods Parade
Mountain Empire Athletic League will host the seventh annual Christmas Gala with a Santa Claus Back Woods Parade, led by the Kentucky National Guard, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 21 at New Life Baptist Church. The parade starts at the far end of McCormack Road to King Highway, over the rail track to Fairview to Waddy Road to New Life Baptist Church. Travel with Santa Claus in the parade on a bike, trike, hot rod, horses or hop a ride with Santa Claus. Special Christmas gifts will be given from the North Pole, and Mrs. Claus will have her special burgers, hot dogs and drinks for families. For more information, contact Mrs. Claus at 502-682-8946.
Bagdad cantata
The Bagdad Baptist Church choir’s Christmas cantata, Bethlehem Morning, will be performed at 11 a.m. Dec. 22. The church is located at 5790 Elmburg Road in Bagdad.
Burks Branch holiday events
The Burks Branch Baptist Church choir will have a presentation of Majesty of Heaven at 11 a.m. Dec. 22. Gather at 5:30 p.m. at the church for a candlelight advent service followed by Christmas caroling for shut-ins and the Masonic Home. The church is located at 2023 Fox Run Road.
Pigeon Fork cantata
Pigeon Fork Baptist Church will have a cantata, Come Messiah, King, during the morning worship service on Dec 22. The church is located at 5090 Graefenburg Road in Waddy.

Southern Lights holiday festival
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Southern Lights holiday festival, returns to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington through Dec. 31. The Southern Lights driving route is open from 5:30 to 10 nightly. The other attractions inside the park will be open every night except Nov. 28 and Dec. 24 through 31. The cost is $15 per passenger car Sunday through Thursday evenings and $20 per passenger car on Friday and Saturday nights. The cost for an extended van or limousine is $30, a mini-bus is $50, a school bus is $75 and a motorcoach is $125. The Southern Lights Stroll on Thursday is the only night the lights can be viewed on foot. A competitive 5K race will be available to families. The cost is $20 for adults and includes a long-sleeved T-shirt for the first 500 registered adults; $15 for children, ages 7 to 12 includes a souvenir holiday item for the first 200 registered children.
