Shelby County students accepted to arts program
The Kentucky Center is hosting more than 200 young artists from every region of the commonwealth as The Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) takes place at Lexington’s Transylvania University through July 13.

Participating from Shelby County are Sierra Brown of Shelby County High School, visual art; and Ryan Ruff of Collins High School, drama.

The student artists from 48 counties will be immersed in a schedule of daily seminars, master-classes, lectures, hands-on workshops and field trips to regional arts attractions. Instruction will be offered in nine disciplines: architecture, creative writing, dance, drama, instrumental music, musical theatre, new media, visual art and vocal music.

The program will culminate on July 13 with an all-day festival that celebrates the achievements of Kentucky’s young artists. Additionally, 23 colleges and universities currently offer scholarships to alumni of GSA.
