The third grade at Southside Elementary has been working on a social studies unit about how to be good citizens at home, school and in the community. As part of this unit, the “Holiday Helpers” collected items Dec. 3 through Dec. 7 for Open Door of Hope, the homeless men’s shelter. Rev. Lee Bean from Open Door of Hope joined students at their morning meeting to collect all of the items and to discuss how they demonstrated good citizenship by helping others. Bean also talked about how the third-graders have helped to serve and contribute (part of the Tiger Pledge) in the community by collecting and donating the items.
