A structure fire that destroyed an empty house in Shelby County near the Henry County line Saturday is being investigated as a possible arson, fire investigators said.

At 8:46 a.m. the Shelby County Fire Department was dispatched to a 600 Drane Lane off Eminence Pike, where upon arrival, they discovered heavy fire throughout the home, a tenant house owned by Ben Nutter.

“The house was recently vacated and no one was inside at the time of the fire,” said Shelby County Fire Chief Bobby Cowherd.

Major Andy White, fire investigator for the Shelby County Fire Department was on the scene investigating the fire in collaboration with the Shelby County Sheriff Department.

White’s investigations found the fire to be suspicious, Cowherd said, adding that

White had requested an arson dog from Scott County Fire Department to assist with the investigation of the fire.

On Monday, White met with the handler of the dog, to complete the investigation at the site of the fire.

Samples were taken and sent to the Kentucky State Police lab for testing, Cowherd said.
