Seven members of a family in Simpsonville were left homeless after a fire destroyed their home early Friday morning.
Simpsonville Fire Chief Ronnie Sowder said the resident’s name is Danyel Keating. Seven people – two adults and five children – were home and escaped uninjured. Their frame home was left in rubble.
Sowder said the call came in at 1 a.m. of a structure fire at 2233 Antioch Road.
He said the Red Cross is helping the family, who lost everything they owned.
“They got out with just the clothes on their backs,” he said.
Sowder said the cause of the fire is undetermined, but that arson is not suspected.
“It’s not a suspicious fire,” he said.
The report by Simpsonville Fire said that Keating told firefighters the fire started in the room containing the water heater, and at first thought the family had gotten the fire under control. But when firefighters arrived on the scene, they found heavy fire on the second floor, the report said.
Simpsonville Fire was assisted by the Shelby County and Ballardsville Fire Departments.
No firefighters were injured in the blaze.
