Page wants a 2nd term

By Todd Martin

After winning a seat on the Shelbyville City Council two years ago in his first attempt, Frank Page is running again.

Page, 44, was first elected to the council in 2010 and is one of five Republicans who will be on the ballot in November.

Seven Democrats will compete in the May Primary for six spots to oppose them.

From the 11 nominated, six will be chosen for the council. All six incumbents are seeking re-election.

In his first term, Page has served on the fire department and sidewalk committees, and he says the job has been a learning experience.

"I have really enjoyed my time serving on the city council, and I have learned a lot about the city and its day-to-day operations" he said. "It's a blessing to be able to give back to a community that has been good to me and my family."

Page said he's tried to approach each council meeting with one thought in mind: What's best for the city?

"I try to always look at each issue with an open mind and to listen to the facts that are being presented and try to make recommendations based on what's best for the city as a whole, not as individuals or groups," he said. "I think it is important to look at the big picture and to be careful with today's decisions that are going to have an impact on our future, as well."

Page said the key for Shelbyville is economic growth.

"I believe our biggest challenge, opportunity, is trying to help with creating jobs and positive healthy growth in our community. I also feel it is important to make sure that the city is always looking for ways to be more efficient in the daily operations."

He is a life-long Shelby Countian and lives in the Town 'N Country neighborhood with his wife, Nancy. He has four sons, Stewart, Matthew, Andrew and Lawson.

He is a teacher at Collins High School, where he is also on the basketball staff as the freshman head coach and helps with JV and varsity squads. Page also volunteers his time with the West Middle football team and is a member of Southeast Christian Church.
