Boys finish ninth overall

By Todd Martin

Shelby County’s Stacey Eden had been pushing for the state title in the 3,200 the past two years. Now, as a junior, Eden can add that title to a long list of accomplishments.

Eden held off Manual’s David Hamm and defending champion Ryan Eaton of Greenwood to win the race in a time of 9:33.04.

Eden’s win was the highlight of the day for the Rockets.

The team finished ninth overall, scoring 26 points, more than traditional powers Owensboro and Dunbar.

Tyler Whitehouse had the next best finish for the Rockets, placing third in the 400 behind the Henry Clay duo of Brandon Nichols and Blake Green.

Alec Zaremba finished fifth in the mile, rounding out the Rockets’ individual scores.

The 4x8 relay team – Eden, J.J. Depasco, Jonathan Pernell and Zaremba – placed sixth, as did the 4x400 team – Pernell, Rico O’Bannon, Edwin Thomas and Whitehouse.
