A former Shelby County man accused of murdering a woman from Mount Eden has been indicted in connection with her death.

Gary M. Bancroft, 33, of Lawrenceburg was indicted Tuesday by an Anderson County Grand Jury with murder and tampering with physical evidence in the slashing death of Frances Renee Mobley, also 33.

Bancroft was arrested Sept. 3 after Kentucky State Police troopers discovered Mobley’s body inside a container at the couple’s mobile home on Bardstown Trail in Anderson County.

The gruesome discovery came after police received a tip from someone, allegedly from Ronnie Hale, a friend of Bancroft’s who also lives on Bardstown Road in Anderson County, who claims that Bancroft told him that he had murdered Mobley.

Bancroft has a history of domestic violence and was fined for fourth-degree assault on Mobley when the couple lived in Shelby County.

He has been lodged in the Franklin County Detention Center under a $500,000 cash bond since he was arrested, due to the fact that Anderson County does not have a correctional facility.

He will be arraigned on those charges Oct. 5 at 9 a.m. in Anderson Circuit Court.
