With the District Tournament looming, the Shelbyville American Legion Post 37 ended its regular season Friday with an 11-1 rout of Morehead.
Dylan Grandon and Chris Toombs each went 3-for-4 and combined to drive in eight runs. Toombs also had a home run.
The pitching of Shaun Fredrick and Eric Standafer allowed only one run on the day.
"We finished the season on a high note," Coach Jim Wiley said. "Our concern now is how well we'll play in District without [injured shortstop] Jordan Queen. That hurts a lot."
The three-team District tournament (Shelby, Oldham, and Danville) got under way Tuesday night at Stratton Field, when Post 37 took on Danville. The winner faces Oldham County tonight, and the loser will play Thursday.
Leading up to the opener, Wiley said the participating teams were all evenly matched.
"The thing is wide open," he said. "Any of the three teams in it can win."
And all three are familiar with one another. Post 37 recently beat Oldham County, and back in the first game of the season, it lost to Danville.
"Hopefully we learned something," he said. "The new season starts now. Tournament play is always different.
"You'll see people who haven't played well play better, and you'll see people who have played good all year have a hard time. Hopefully that won't happen to us, but that's the way the game is.
"If we play like we played in the last couple weeks, I feel good about it, he said."
