The practice of stealing metallic parts from automobiles for sale as scrap metal has led to another theft, police say.
Sometime between 3 and 7 a.m. Thursday someone cut the catalytic converter off two vehicles on the lot of Clear Creek Auto at 87 7th St.
Istvan Kovacs, community resource officer at the Shelbyville Police Department said that catalytic converters are frequently targeted by thieves, who sell them to recycling centers as scrap metal.
The converters will cost more than $200 each to replace.
