Boys 8th Region Preview 29th District South Oldham Record: 25-5 overall, 12-1 region; the Dragons are on a 10-game winning streak. Shelby was their only region loss. History vs. SCHS: The Rockets won, 74-53, on Jan. 15. Key players: Senior guard Casey Jackson scored 27 against Shelby, including hitting five 3-pointers. The Dragons have made 266 three-pointers this season, an average of 8.9 per game. Jackson (16.3 ppg) and Brice Jewett (10.9 ppg) are South Oldham’s leaders. North Oldham Record: 12-15 overall, 5-5 region History vs. SCHS: The Rockets won, 84-75, on Jan. 22 Key players: Sophomore center Devon Rowan (6 feet 7, 250 pounds), scored 25 points and had 14 rebounds against Shelby. Senior guard Alex Foley scored 23 points against SCHS, including three 3-pointers. 30th District Shelby County Record: 21-5 overall, 11-0 region Key players: Donovan Johnson continued playing as a one of the best in the region in Shelby’s district championship victory, 15 points and leading the Rockets in rebounds (7). Freshman Darryl Hicks is earning a reputation as a playmaker. He had 14 steals and 13 points against Anderson County on Friday. Point guard Boomer Beckley will free up 3-point shooter Cache Tomlinson by attacking the basket. Tomlison hit five 3s in the championship game. And forwards Eric Standafer and Nigel Beach will share responsibility for shutting down Rowan inside in the first-round. Anderson County Record: 17-7 overall, 7-3 region; defending regional champions History vs. SCHS: Shelby has beaten the Bearcats twice this season, most recently, 59-46, in the district championship. Key players: 6-foot-4 senior Jacob Russell scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Shelby. Tyler Hyatt hit three 3s in the loss Friday. 31st District Gallatin County Record: 23-6, 17-5 in region History vs. SCHS: Did not play. Key players: Gallatin County edged Owen County, 58-51, in overtime of the district championships. Senior point guard Zac Jones led all scorers with 21 points. Travis Davis added 13. Owen County Record: 14-9 overall, 11-7 region History vs. SCHS: Did not play. Key players: Senior post player Jordan Shelton ( 6-7) averages 7.5 points and 7.6 rebounds a game. He also leads the Rebels in total rebounds and blocked shots. Sophomore Sawyer Williams also plays forward and averages 12.7 ppg and 6.4 rebounds. He’s the Rebels’ leading scorer. 32nd District Simon Kenton Record: 14-11 overall, 9-1 region History vs. SCHS: Scheduled game canceled by snow. Key players: Simon Kenton edged Walton-Verona, 44-43, in the district final, and sophomore guard Cody Chambers led all scorers with 20 points. Senior guard Casey Sorrell added 10 for the Pioneers. Walton-Verona Record: 20-9 overall, 15-5 region History vs. SCHS: Did not play. Key players: in the district championship, senior guard Jordan Ponzer led the Bearcats with 12 points.
