Starting June 12, many downtown merchants will extend their hours to lure shoppers who may take advantage of the long days to stroll down Main or Washington.

Most members of Shelbyville Merchants Association for Retail Trade (S.M.A.R.T.) will remain open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays. Many of the stores will also offer discounts and in-store specials during the extended hours.

"When I worked in Frankfort, I always fumed because Shelbyville closed up by the time I got home," said Helen Gardner in a press release. Gardner is now the owner of Gardner House Antiques, one of the businesses that will participate in the extended hours.

Other stores offering extended hours starting June 12 are: Avon on 6th, Eventuality, Flowers by Sharon, Magnolia's Salon and Spa, Main Street Music and More, Ruby Rooster Antique Mall, Sawdust and Stitches, Surroundings Design Studio, the Keepsake Shop and the Needle Nest.
