A record-number of illegal immigrants were deported from here this year, despite reported drops in some immigration enforcement activity during the last quarter.
At least 204 people have been deported from Shelbyville/Shelby County since March, according to a report released last week by Shelbyville Mayor Tom Hardesty. About 31 other undocumented immigrants are being held on federal detainers at the Shelby County Regional Detention Center, where they await transfer to a facility in Grayson County, Ky.
