Diabetes classes
A 4-part series of classes about diabetes will continue at 1 p.m. Thursday and June 14 at the Shelby County Extension Office. Mount Moriah basketball tournament
Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Mount Eden will host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament to raise money for the mission group going to Haiti. It will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and finish at 8 a.m. Saturday. Long golf scramble
The 16th annual Shelby Community Charities Michael Long Golf Scramble is Friday and Saturday at the Shelbyville Country Club. Friday includes live auction and live music. The 6-person golf scramble on Saturday is $125 per person, with a dance and auction that evening. Dance tickets for those who do not participate in the scramble are $80 per couple, which includes appetizers, drinks and dancing. A dinner will be provided. Yard sale benefit
A benefit yard sale for Jamie Andriot will be at 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Allure Salon/Violi Business Center, 320 Boone Station Road. Andriot is battling cancer. Masonic Mothers Day sale
The Shelbyville Masonic Lodge, Solomon’s No. 5, will have its annual Mothers Day flower sale, the James Bowman Memorial Flower Sale, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Bagdad Days, a community event sponsored by Bagdad Baptist Church, will celebrate 20 years on Saturday. Luci Center fundraiser
The Luci Ball fundraiser for the Luci Center will be Saturday at Undulata Farm in Shelbyville. Proceeds from the event will go towards the therapeutic riding program. Plant giveaway
Need some new/different plants for your yard or garden? A free plant giveaway and swap will be at 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, rain or shine, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 181 Old Seven Mile Pike. The sixth annual Drive It Home Golf Classic to benefit Shelby County Habitat for Humanity will be at noon June 4 at Persimmon Ridge Golf Course. The cost will be $125 per player or $500 per team. Tai Chi at extension office

The Shelby County Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will accept applications for the pre-teen, teen and queen pageants at the Shelby County Fair. SCHS Class of ‘92 reunion

Finchville Ruritan Christmas party
The Finchville Ruritan will have its community Christmas party at 5 p.m. Dec. 15. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there along with Rudolf, the Grinch and elves. Snacks will be served. There will be more information to come.

Book club kits at the library
If you belong to a book discussion group or are thinking about starting one, you are invited to check out the Shelby County Public Library’s selection of book kits. Each kit contains 12 books and a notebook with information about the author, a synopsis of the book and discussion questions. All of the books have been selected and read by the library’s “Brown Bag” book club. Shelby County Farmers’ Market
The Shelby County Farmers’ Market is open weekly 8 a.m.-noon on Saturdays through Oct. 27. Local vendors offer fresh produce of many kinds, eggs, jams, jellies, cut flowers, perennials, shrubs and trees, as well as baked goods, honey, handmade soap, jewelry, pottery, yarn goods, and more.

The JCTC Adult Education Program in Shelby County offers free programs for adults. Individuals seeking a GED can study at their own pace or attend classes; skill review – to read better, improve writing skills, or brush up on math to get a better job or prepare for college; national career readiness certification – verify your skills in three key areas that are important to employers; paraeducator – providing the necessary training and testing to help individuals who plan to work in the school systems as an instructional assistant; English as a second language (ESL). Library Walking Club
The Shelby County Public Library is forming a Walking Club that will meet at the FAC parking lot Monday through Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. Park near the white farmhouse. MOPS meetings
MOPS: Mothers of Preschoolers meets at 6-7:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month at First Baptist Church Shelbyville. Free childcare is provided for the moms attending the meetings. The children are divided into age-appropriate classes. Nursing infants may remain with moms. On Wednesdays, a family meal is offered at 5-5:45 p.m. for $5 per adult, and children eat free. Mothers of Preschoolers is a program designed to nurture mothers with children from infancy through kindergarten.
Drug/alcohol recovery
Celebrate Recovery is a Christian-based Drug and Alcohol Recovery at the First Baptist Church, across from the Shelby Co. Fairgrounds. It is also for anyone who has a hurt, habit or hang-up. Chemical dependency program

The Painted Stone Family Resource Center will offer free after-school tutoring. Foster care/adoption program
The Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) is forming classes for their foster care and adoption program. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, married or single, financially stable and have an income, in good physical and mental health, meet safety requirements including background checks, and all adults in the home must successfully complete 32 hours of training. CHFS is in specific need of foster/adoptive homes willing to accept teenagers, large sibling groups (three or more), medically fragile kids, kids of a different race/ethnicity and kids currently available for adoption on the Special Needs Adoption Web site.
