Battling power outages across the Commonwealth, many residents are resorting to alternative heating sources to stay warm. But there are some serious dangers associated with alternative heating.
The National Fire Protection Association says heating equipment was involved in an estimated 64,100 U.S. home structure fires, 540 civilian deaths, 1,400 civilian injuries, and $943 million in property damage in 2006. Winter months are the peak times for these dangers.
