Shelby County’s Stacey Eden scored his first victory of the season at Saturday’s Franklin County Invitational.
Running at the Kentucky Horse Park, the site of the State Meet, Eden, a senior, won with a time of 16 minutes, 46 seconds, more than 6 seconds ahead of Todd Hewitt of Eaton.
Eden’s race up the standings wasn’t the only big move for Shelby's cross-country team. Senior William Thompson moved up to 15th overall out of 306 individuals with a time of 17:48, and his classmate Travis Adams was in the top 50, finishing 42nd with a time of 18:44.
Rounding out the Rockets’ top five were Thomas Smith in 83rd with a time of 19:23, and Justin Downs in 113th in a time of 19:44.
The Rockets’ third-place finish was the teams' best this season, and they were only one point behind second-place Male. South Oldham took the title with 142 points, almost 100 points better than SCHS.
