Donnie Bruner of Bagdad is running for a second term for constable in District 4, which includes Bagdad, Cropper and Boone Station.

Bruner, a Democrat, has been the constable in District 4 since 2006.

He said he is running for a second term as constable because he enjoys helping people.

"I help out with being a backup for the deputies, and also a big thing with me is that I help EMS find addresses at night," he said.

Bruner said that after he locates an address, he parks in the driveway and helps direct the ambulance to the location. When they are within sight, he waves them down.

"If I can get that ambulance to the patient a few minutes faster, it could help save a life," he said.

Bruner said he also likes helping elderly people.

"There are a lot of elderly people in my district, and it makes them feel better knowing they can call on me if they need help," he said. "And when I see them outside, I will stop and talk to them. That's another thing I like about this job; I have made a lot of really good friends. Not everybody out there is a bad guy."

Bruner is a Shelby County native and has three children, Stephen, Danielle and MacKenzie, and a fiancé, Amanda Lamaster.

He is a 10-year employee of the Bagdad Roller Mills.
