Children's opportunity

Kids Korner is 10 a.m. until noon, July 29, at Centenary United Methodist Church for K-5th Grade children who are on the free/reduced meals program. The children enter the facility from the 5th and Washington Street door to the church and are given an opportunity to share in games, crafts, stories and fellowship before enjoying a hot meal and being sent home with a take-home-snack-sack. For those who do not have transportation we have a 9:30/12:15 pick-up/return in front of the red barn in Marshall's Mobile Home Park and a 9:45/12:30 pick-up/return for children living in the Martinsville community in front of St. John's United Methodist Church. Goat producers meeting

Shawn Jackson, UK Agriculture, Goat/Forage Production, will talk about fall forage planting and rotational grazing at the North Central KY Goat Producers' meeting on August 12 at 6:30 PM at the Henry County Extension Office. Fundraiser

Alyssa's Angels is having a fundraiser noon-3 p.m. at the Firefresh BBQ on Sunday, July 27. All tips given during that time will go toward 6-year-old Alyssa Beard's diabetes walk team. These tips will be given to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation during the annual "Walk to Cure Diabetes" in September. Eighty-five cents from every dollar donated actually goes to research.

Salvation Army

The Shelby County Salvation Army Unit will have a new office in the victory Baptist Church building on Main Street in Shelbyville. The new hours are 2:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays. Applications for assistance can be received and reviewed during those hours.

Historymobile

The Shelby County Historical Society is sponsoring the Kentucky Historymobile from the Kentucky Historical Society from 3-9 p.m. Friday, July 25, at the Shelbyville Heritage/Welcome Center parking lot at 627 Main Street. The event is in conjunction with the Friday Night Concert.

Family History Day is 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, July 26. This free event is sponsored by the Shelbyville Historical Society and will begin at the Shelbyville Heritage/Welcome Center, 627 Main Street. Tour downtown Shelbyville and learn about the buildings and homes. Parents must attend with students.

Upward Flag Football

Ages Kindergarden-through-5th grade for boys and girls may register for Upward Flag Football at First Baptist Church (FBC). The cost is $55 until July 25 for early registration. For information, contact FBC at 633-1317. You may register from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the church Monday-Friday.

Horseshow Jubilee

Tom Hood will perform a free concert at the Friday Night Street Party Concert, from 6 p.m. July 25, at 629 Main Street. Picnic food is prepared by First Presbyterian Church. Downtown merchants will have sidewalk sales and more Saturday, July 26. The Chalk Walk for children, grades K-8 is 11 a.m. at the courthouse steps. Participants must register before July 21 at 633-5029.

Live Music will be featured at noon with Lewis Mathis performing, and then again at 7 p.m. with Leo and the Moonlighters performing. The Shelby County Car Club presents downtown Cruz-in Car Cruise 6-10 p.m.

Kentucky Trailblazers

The Fun Days event begins 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Kentucky Trailblazers campground on Haley Road, near Finchville. There will be games, auctions and horse events. For information, call Buster Cook, 502-448-2714. Kentucky Trailblazers is a regional horsedrawn wagon club.

Prayer Connection

The non-denominational prayer connection is 9:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the Stratton Center.

Wingate Lodge

Gardening meeting

Fish fry dates

The Lake Shelby Fish Fry is 5:30-8 p.m. the third Friday of each month through September at the lake main shelter. The specific dates are Aug. 15 and Sept. 19 (Price, $8.50, or a la carte).

Farmer's market

Shelby County Farmer's Market is open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at Shelby County Fairgrounds. It is also open 3-7 p.m. Thursdays at Metzger's Country Store in Simpsonville. For information, call Suzi Rice, 633-7868.

Republican meeting

Multi-Purpose service

The Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency provides home-delivered meals to senior citizens free of charge. An intake form may be completed over the phone. For information, contact Wanda at 633-2218.

Community service

Looking for Volunteers of all ages to work about 10 hours each week in our ACT Now Against Domestic Violence Program to serve as program facilitators, mentors and counselors. Tumble Time

The Family Activity Center at Clear Creek Park is offering Tumble Time for children. Cathy Wilhoit, certified fitness instructor, will lead the classes. There are classes for 2-3 year olds, 4-5 year olds, and 6-8 year olds. Call the FAC office for more information, 633-5059.

Family Activity Center

Open play Pickle Ball is 9-11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Shelby County Family Activity Center (FAC). The cost is the daily admission. Line dancing is Friday nights. There is an additional charge. Call the FAC, 633-5059, for information.

Cycling group

Shelby County Cyclists is in its first year of activity and offers rides for all levels of cyclists and will offer instructional rides in the future. Salvation Army change

The Shelby County Salvation Army Unit is now located at the Victory Baptist Church building on Main Street in Shelbyville. New operating hours are 2:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. Applications will be received and reviewed only during those times. New guidelines for the Angel Tree will soon be released.

ALC Pregnancy Resource Center

The center offers free pregnancy testing, confidential peer counseling and information on all choices in an unplanned pregnancy, baby and maternity clothing and equipment, parenting and cooking classes and referrals to local resources. All our services are free and open to anyone. Center hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, 2-6 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays. No appointment is necessary. Caryatid Bookclub

Volunteer opportunity

To volunteer at animal adoption centers, the Humane Society or the Shelby County Animal Shelter, call 633-4033. New Humane Society hours of operation are Monday, 1-5 p.m.; Tuesday, clinic day (low-cost spay/neuter) by appointment; Wednesday, 1-5 p.m.; Thursday, 1-5 p.m.; Friday, 1-5 p.m.; and by appointment. Spay/neuter assistance

LifeBridge for Animals will provide spay and neuters for all pets adopted from the Shelby County Animal Shelter when the voucher received at the adoption is redeemed through a participating LifeBridge veterinarian. Call 633-4959 for information.
