Children's classes

Mount Eden Saddle Club

Simpsonville fundraiser

The Truth4Life Sunday School Class from Simpsonville Baptist Church is sponsoring a benefit dinner 6 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at the Simpsonville Community Gym. This dinner will benefit a local Simpsonville family whose dad was diagnosed with leukemia last November. He is self-employed but unable to work due to treatments. Cost for the dinner will be $7 per person or $20 per family. Dozens Of Dollars will provide entertainment. There will be a silent auction which will be open to the public at 4 p.m.. Shelbyville Senior Center

A driver safety class is 1 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at the senior center, 207 Washington St. Lunch reservations must be made by noon, March 12. Call 633-2218 for information. Bunco is offered at the senior center noon, March 14. Lunch provided. Call for information.

Crusade for Children auction

The Bagdad Fire Protection District will have an auction 5 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Bagdad Firehouse. To donate items, call 220-0964 or 220-3934. Concessions available.

Alpaca/Llama seminar.

Dr. Melissa Lipps will talk on worming, reproduction and vaccinations for alpacas and llamas 6:30 p.m. March 13, at Metzger's Country Store in Simpsonville.

Kids Korner

Centenary United Methodist Church has Kids Korner 10 a.m. until noon, Saturday, March 15. The program is for K-fifth graders who are on the free/reduced meals program. The children are given an opportunity to share in games, crafts, stories and fellowship before enjoying a hot meal and a take-home-snack-sack. There is a 9:30 a.m./12:15 p.m. pick-up/return in front of the red barn in Marshall's Mobile Home Park and a 9:45 a.m./12:30 p.m. pick-up/return in front of St. John's United Methodist Church in the Martinsville community. ALC Pregnancy Resource Center

The center offers free pregnancy testing, confidential peer counseling, and information on all choices in an unplanned pregnancy, baby and maternity clothing and equipment, parenting and cooking classes and referrals to local resources. All our services are free and open to anyone. Center hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays, 2-6 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays. No appointment is necessary. Gardening meeting

The Shelby County Master Gardeners will meet March 11 at the County Extension Office. A social time is 6:30 p.m., and the meeting is 7 p.m. Larry Brandenburg will speak.

Mounted police event

The Louisville Metro Police Mounted Unit (LMMPU) and the Whitney M. Young Jr. Job Corps Equine Program will have a demonstration at noon Saturday, April 5, at the covered arena at Equestrian Lakes Subdivision.

Prayer Connection

The non-denominational Prayer Connection meets 9:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Crescent Place in Shelbyville.

NAACP tour

The Shelbyville/Shelby County branch of the NAACP is sponsoring a New York City Visual and Fellowship Tour, June 23-27. There is a bi-monthly payment plan. For a price list and itinerary, call Albert or Debra Jordan, 633-1789. The tour is organized by Kentucky Tours & Travel Inc., Danville.

Exhibit at library

The Shelby County Public Library will exhibit the history of telephones during the month of February. Antique memorabilia is provided by J.D. Stucker, owner of the Telephone Doctor.

Orchestra members needed

The Shelby Community Orchestra invites new members to join. All brass, saxophone and percussion players are especially needed. Rehearsals are 7-8:30 p.m. on alternating Tuesdays, at the First Baptist Church in Shelbyville. Details are available from Mary McGillen, (502)655-0140.

Master Gardeners fair

The Shelby County Master Gardener Association will have the 8th annual Shelbyville County Garden and Art Fair 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Shelby County Fairgrounds. Hundreds of perennial plants from members' gardens will be offered for sale. Kentucky horticultural organizations will be on site. Music and food accompany the event. Cell phones collected

Cell Phones for Soldiers and the Shelby County Public Library are collecting used cell phones to help keep troops connected with their families. Phones may be donated at the Shelby County Public Library, 309 8th St.

Donations requested

Sunny Patch Farm, which houses the horses for the Whitney M. Young Job Corps Equine Training Program, is requesting the donation of hay for its horses. New or gently used items are also requested for an auction fundraiser. For information, contact Sharon Cook, (502) 417-3129.

Volunteer opportunity

To volunteer at animal adoption centers, Humane Society or Shelby County Animal Shelter, call 633-4033. New Humane Society hours of operation are Monday, 1-5 p.m.; Tuesday, clinic day (low-cost spay/neuter) by appointment; Wednesday, 1-5 p.m.; Thursday, 1-5 p.m.; Friday, 1-5 p.m.; and by appointment. The Humane Society is at 40 N. Seventh Street, 633-4033.

Easter Egg hunts

The Community Easter Egg Hunt is 2-4 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at Simpsonville Christian Church. The hunt is sponsored by the Simpsonville Lions Club and Simpsonville Christian Church.

Spay/neuter assistance

LifeBridge for Animals will provide spay and neuters for all pets adopted from the Shelby County Animal Shelter when the voucher received at the adoption is redeemed through a participating LifeBridge veterinarian. Call 633-4959 for information.
