Farmer's market

Shelby County Farmer's Market organizational meeting will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Shelby County Extension Office. Membership is open to producers from Shelby County and adjacent counties to sell produce and products made in these counties. Deadline for membership is June 15. Volunteer with horses

Tumble Time

The Family Activity Center of Clear Creek Park is offering Tumble Time for children. Cathy Wilhoit, certified fitness instructor, will lead the classes. There are classes for 2-3 year olds, 4-5 year olds, and 6-8 year olds. Call the FAC office for more information, 633-5059.

Family Activity Center

Open play Pickle Ball is 9-11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Shelby County Family Activity Center. The cost is the daily admission. Line dancing is Friday nights. There is an additional charge. Call the FAC, 633-5059 for information.

Simpsonville fundraiser

The Truth4Life Sunday School Class from Simpsonville Baptist Church is sponsoring a benefit dinner 6 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Simpsonville Community Gym. This dinner will benefit a local Simpsonville family whose dad was diagnosed with leukemia last November. There will be a silent auction which will be open to the public at 4 p.m.. Mounted police event

The Louisville Metro Police Mounted Unit (LMMPU) and the Whitney M. Young Jr. Job Corps Equine Program will have a demonstration at noon Saturday, April 5, at the covered arena at Equestrian Lakes Subdivision.

NAACP tour

Orchestra members needed

Master Gardeners fair

The Shelby County Master Gardener Association will have the 8th annual Shelbyville County Garden and Art Fair 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Shelby County Fairgrounds. Hundreds of perennial plants from members' gardens will be offered for sale. Kentucky horticultural organizations will be on site. Music and food accompany the event. Student contest

The Optimist Club of Shelby County is sponsoring an oratorical contest for students under the age of 16 as of Dec. 31, 2007. The contest, "Why me? Why not?" is 6:30 p.m. April 22, at the Stratton Center. Winners will receive awards and possibly an opportunity to win college scholarships. Red Orchard event

Shelbyville/Shelby County Parks is sponsoring the Earth Day Celebration 9 a.m.-noon March 29, at Red Orchard Park on Kentucky Street. Kentucky Blue will perform. Bring your own shovel for tree planting. There will also be a Kids' Tent, Earth Mamas performance and other activities.

Cell phones collected

Cell Phones for Soldiers and the Shelby County Public Library are collecting used cell phones to help keep troops connected with their families. Phones may be donated at the Shelby County Public Library, 309 8th St.

ALC Pregnancy Resource Center

The center offers free pregnancy testing, confidential peer counseling, and information on all choices in an unplanned pregnancy, baby and maternity clothing and equipment, parenting and cooking classes and referrals to local resources. All our services are free and open to anyone. Center hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays, 2-6 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays. No appointment is necessary. Volunteer opportunity

To volunteer at animal adoption centers, Humane Society or Shelby County Animal Shelter, call 633-4033. New Humane Society hours of operation are Monday, 1-5 p.m.; Tuesday, clinic day (low-cost spay/neuter) by appointment; Wednesday, 1-5 p.m.; Thursday, 1-5 p.m.; Friday, 1-5 p.m.; and by appointment. Caryatid Book Club

Spay/neuter assistance
