Paying for College 101
Due to weather, Paying for College, a program taught by officials from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority, has been changed to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Shelby County Extension Office. The Shelby County Master Gardener Association will have the 8th annual Shelbyville County Garden Art Fair 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Shelby County Fairgrounds. Hundreds of perennial plants from members' gardens will be offered for sale. Kentucky horticultural organizations will be on site. Music and food accompany the event.
The Prayer Connection, a non-denominational study, will meet 9:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Stratton Center.
Parks Board Social
Guests can meet members of the Parks Board at the Shelby County Parks Board quarterly social is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, in the Family Activity Center.
Boy Scout event
Boy Scout Troop 137 is having open house 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan 31, at the Finchville Baptist Church, Hwy 55 South, 5 miles south of I-64. It is open to all boys from 5th grade and up, who are considering scouting. There will presentations and demonstrations from the boys and leaders of Troop 137. Refreshments will be served.
Cell phones collected
Cell Phones for Soldiers and the Shelby County Public Library are collecting used cell phones to help keep troops connected with their families. Phones may be donated at the Shelby County Public Library, 309 8th St. The drop-off box is located in the rotunda of the library.
The Family Activity Center of Clear Creek Park is offering Tumble Time for children. Cathy Wilhoit, certified fitness instructor, will lead the classes. There are classes for 2-3 year olds, 4-5 year olds, and 6-8 year olds. Call the FAC office for more information, 633-5059.
ALC Pregnancy Resource Center
The center offers free pregnancy testing, confidential peer counseling, and information on all choices in an unplanned pregnancy, baby and maternity clothing and equipment, parenting and cooking classes and referrals to local resources. All our services are free and open to anyone. Center hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays, 2-6 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays. No appointment is necessary.
