Downtown Holly Hop

Sixteen downtown Shelbyville businesses are sponsoring the Holly Hop Shop Hop through Dec. 1. The grand prize is $1,000. Participants can visit all of the participating businesses, find a hidden holly sprig and register to win the grand prize. Donations collected

Calvary Cemetery, Inc., a non-profit organization, is requesting contributions from businesses, churches and individuals to help pay the debt incurred by the purchase of the Big Shelby Tobacco Warehouse property. Donations may be made to Calvary Cemetery, Inc., P.O. Box 427, Shelbyville, KY 40066.

Bowersox Vision Center, 403 Washington St., is once again giving away boxes. There is a large assortment of sizes for gifts and shipping. Stop by during regular business hours.

Christmas in Mount Eden

Christmas In Mount Eden will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7. There will be a chili supper, silent auction, trolley rides, gospel singing, live nativity, lots of lights and Santa. All proceeds will benefit Amber Barnes. A meeting will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Ruritan building. Volunteers are still needed.

Monarchs perform

The Monarchs will perform 8-11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Simpsonville Gymnasium. Doors open at 7 p.m. The Christmas Dance will benefit Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy and Corpus Christi High School. The cost is singles, $30; couples, $50. Tickets are limited. For reservations, call 722-8090.

Ornament painting

Big Dog Pottery and Art-Is ornament painting party has been changed. It will now meet 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Art-Is studio on Main Street in Shelbyville. The class is open to all ages. The cost is $18 per ornament painted. This includes all of the materials needed to paint your own ornament. The ornaments will be glazed and fired and available for pick-up before Christmas. For information, call 502-395-3329.

Christmas cards for troops

The Shelby County Public Library invites anyone to come by the library to select a Christmas card. You may bring your own Christmas card, and write a special Christmas message to our troops in Iraq. The Christmas cards at the library are free. Cards must be mailed by Dec. 3, so they are received before Christmas day.

Santa Run

The Ninth Annual Santa Run/Walk for Charity will be held Dec. 1 in Shelbyville. Registration begins at 8 a.m. in the gym at the Shelby County Board of Education, 1155 Main St. Proceeds from the race will benefit Meals on Wheels. Entry fees through Nov. 28 are $10, student (through twelfth grade), and $15, adult. Race Day registrations are $12, student and $20, adult. Each participant receives a commemorative T-shirt. Scholarship available

A tuition scholarship for Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy and Corpus Christi High School is available for one family's school year tuition and book fees. Applications may be obtained at www.corpuschristiinc.org or by calling the school office, 722-8090.

Unplanned pregnancy

The services are free and open to anyone. Call or visit ALC Pregnancy Resource Center, Inc. in Village Plaza Shopping Center. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 2-6 p.m. on Wednesdays. Call 647-0300.

Christmas at library

Crafts for children and free pictures with Santa are among the features of the Christmas at the Library, 11 a.m. until l p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Shelby County Public Library.

Volunteer opportunity

To volunteer at animal adoption centers, Humane Society or Shelby County Animal Shelter, call 633-4033. New Humane Society hours of operation are Monday, 1-5 p.m.; Tuesday, clinic day (low-cost spay/neuter) by appointment; Wednesday, 1-5 p.m.; Thursday, 1-5 p.m.; Friday, 1-5 p.m.; and by appointment. The Humane Society is at 40 N. Seventh Street, 633-4033.

Rocko's Rookies

Clear Creek Family Activity Center is having sign-ups for upcoming Rocko's Rookies classes. Beginning day for basketball is Jan. 8; soccer, Feb. 26. The $35 cost includes a t-shirt. Contact the center in person or call 633-5059.

Support available

A therapy and support group for parents of special needs children meets twice a month at the Dorman Center. The free meeting, sponsored by the Dorman Center and funded by the Moses Ruben Fund, is facilitated by Fran Neal, LCSW, LMFT. For information, call 647-2199.

Compassionate Friends

Compassionate Friends, a support group for anyone who has lost a child, meets the third Tuesday of each month at the Franklin County Health Department. For information, call Sue Newton, 738-5022.

New support group

A Weight Loss Surgery Support Group meets every other Tuesday, at the Shelby-Fit for Life Annex Building, 167 Alpine Dr., Shelbyville. Call 502-376-0712 for further information and/or directions.

A Loving Choice Pregnancy Center

The center offers free pregnancy testing, confidential peer counseling, and information on all choices in an unplanned pregnancy, baby and maternity clothing and equipment, parenting and cooking classes and referrals to local resources. All our services are free and open to anyone. Center hours are Tuesdays 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Wednesdays 2-6 p.m. and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. No appointment is necessary. Family Activity Center

Open play Pickle Ball is 9-11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Shelby County Family Activity Center. The cost is the daily admission. Line Dancing is Friday nights. There is an additional charge. Call the FAC, 633-5059 for information.

Reunions
