Collins High School may not be open yet, but it already has received a big invitation.

The Titans will travel to Fairdale in December to play in the King of the Bluegrass, one of the state’s top holiday tournaments.

The pairings won’t be set until later, but the participating schools were announced earlier this week. The Titans will join Bullitt East, Fairdale, PRP, Iroquois, Eastern, Male and Trinity as in-state teams.

Darryl Hicks, Kentucky’s top-rated player in the class of 2013, is expected to play for Collins. Hicks played in the King of the Bluegrass for Shelby County High School last year and scored 49 points in four games, including 27 in a victory over Iroquois in the opener.

Four out-of-state teams will compete, including a return visit from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral and former University of Kentucky star Rex Chapman’s son, Zeke.

Chaparral came to Kentucky last year, but Zeke didn’t get to play because of an ankle injury.

Along with Chaparral, the three other out-of-state teams are Madison (Ala.) Bob Jones, Pearl (Miss.) and Sacramento (Calif.) Sheldon.

The tournament will be Dec. 17-22 at Fairdale.
