SCHS takes on No. 18 Oldham County

By Josh Cook

The Collins High School volleyball team will face a stiff test to start off the Eighth Region Tournament.

The Titans (22-2), the 30th District champ and only team with an unbeaten record in the region this season, open the tourney against 25th-ranked South Oldham (20-14) at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night at Oldham County.

Meanwhile 30th District runner-up Shelby County (13-14) will face 18th-ranked Oldham County (30-9) in an earlier first-round match slated for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Pairings were announced Sunday.

Collins, which went 14-0 in region-play this season, didn’t meet the Dragons during the regular season. If the Titans win they will face the winner of Bullitt Central (16-13-1) and Williamstown (13-15) in the second semifinal at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The Rockets lost to the Colonels in straight sets (25-13, 25-15) in the Western Hills Invitational on Aug. 28 in Frankfort. If Shelby wins it will meet the winner between Walton-Verona (12-8) and Bullitt East (5-20) at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the first semifinal.
