Collins junior Emily Hinkle, the goalkeeper on the Titans’ girls’ soccer team, has been chosen to play in Disney’s Soccer Showcase event that will take place Sunday through Thursday in Orlando, Fla.

Hinkle, who helped Collins to a 17-3-1 mark this past season, will be playing for the Kentucky Fire Junior Premier U-17 Red team at the Disney Athletic Complex.

“I’m so excited,” said Hinkle, one of only two girls from the state invited to participate in the showcase that will be attended by a slew of college coaches.

Looking ahead

The Rockets (7-3) are slated to take on the hometown Tigers (1-8) at 2 p.m. before facing 8th Region foe Simon Kenton (5-2) at 6 p.m. Shelby County will also play there Saturday. Then, in the new year, the Rockets host Franklin County at 7:30 p.m. next Thursday.
  • The Shelby County boys’ basketball team (2-7), which played Marion County on Thursday night in the Campbellsville University Holiday Classic, has a pair of games scheduled for next weekend. • Meanwhile the Collins boys’ basketball team (9-3) plays its next game at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at 30th District rival Anderson County in the second half of that girl-boy doubleheader.

UK-UofL prediction

There’s a little men’s basketball game Saturday afternoon at the KFC Yum! Center between the universities of Kentucky and Louisville. The Wildcats have dominated this rivalry of late, winning the past four games in a row (including two last season). However the stars seemed to be aligned for the Cardinals this season. They have the experience, the depth and home-court advantage. Give me UofL by 10, 75-65.
