Fresh off its first victory of the season, the Collins softball team turned in an impressive run at the Ballard Invitational, placing second in the weekend tournament

The Titans won three games and lost two, both to the host Bruins, who were ranked No. 5 in the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association preseason Top 25.

“This weekend was definite a stepping stone for our team,” said Collins Coach Suzanne Cates, whose team lost its first four games of the season before beating Louisville Southern 9-6 Thursday for its first victory. “We worked through some issues and are making strides in the right direction. I am proud of how flexible everyone has been and how they are beginning to grasp what it means to play as a team.”

Ballard blanked the Titans 11-0 in their first game of the invitational Friday before Collins bounced back with a 16-3 shellacking of Bishop Brossart that night.

The Titans then defeated Fern Creek and Christian Academy of Louisville, 11-3 and 7-5 respectively, before again falling to the Bruins 8-1 in Saturday’s final.
