Collins’ Ruff elected state Beta president

Ryan Ruff, who sometimes is hidden behind the Titans mascot costume at Collins High School, recently was elected president at Kentucky Beta Convention.

Ryan, the son of Dan and Liz Ruff, was part of a skit for fellow Collins student Leslie Hobbs last year, and he said he knew then he wanted to try his hand at the position.

His platform theme was Twitter. “I tweeted constantly,” he said.

He said he had about 100 followers that he consistently tagged with messages, especially “Go Titans, since I had to make the tough decision to attend Beta rather than the championship football game.”

As state Beta president, Ryan will serve his term next year as a senior, when he will be asked to serve as Kentucky’ ambassador to other state conventions. He said he may even try his hand at national Beta president.

“It teaches the effects of leadership and the strengths of the future through community service,” said Ryan, who has helped clean Operation Care, run the horse carriage for Celebration of Lights and played the piano at nursing homes.

He is also in Titan Singers and Odyssey of the Mind and wants to pursue a degree in theater or broadcasting.
