The state Highway Department will close Burks Branch Road to accommodate construction on the Shelbyville bypass from April 14 to July 31.
The road will be open to local traffic for most of that period. But at some point, the road will be shut down completely, said county Road Supervisor Carl Henry.
"There's going to be a point that not even fire trucks can get through," Henry said.
Drivers will have to use Fox Run Road to access the north end of Burks Branch.
Henry said the state has to put in 20-feet of fill to get the road up to grade, and that will necessitate closing the road completely for a short time. He did not know when or for how long the complete shutdown would happen.
Burks Branch was closed once before - in late 2006. Henry said the highway department will likely close Burks Branch at least one more time following the April closure.
The bypass has been in the works for almost 10 years. Construction on the bypass is expected to be finished in late 2009. The bypass will connect U. S. 60 at Ky. 55 South to Ky. 55 North. The road is just over four miles long.
