Bulldogs notch 20th victory

The Cornerstone Christian boys’ basketball team won a pair of games late last week to reach the 20-victory plateau for the season.

The Bulldogs beat Bluegrass United, 68-41, Thursday for their 19th victory of the season, then topped Heritage Christian, 62-58, in overtime Saturday for  No. 20.

The Bulldogs, who led, 51-40, after three quarters, outscored the hosts, 17-1, in the fourth quarter in Lexington.  

Josh Woodward, Jerrit Brooks and Nate Oates led Cornerstone’s balanced offensive attack with 13 points apiece. Christian Lopesilvero added 11 and Trevor Watkins 9 for the Bulldogs.


Cornerstone 62, Heritage 58 (OT)

The Bulldogs (20-5) outscored the visiting Warriors, 12-8, Saturday in the extra session in their regular-season home finale.

Woodward tallied a team-high 20 points for Cornerstone, which led, 26-23, at halftime, and Lopesilvero added 17. Each made four 3-pointers.

Watkins added 11 for the Bulldogs, who led, 40-33, after three quarters before Heritage (9-7) outscored them, 17-10, in the final period to force overtime.

Cornerstone closed out its regular season Tuesday night at Community Christian.
