Budget concerns loom heavy as session winds down

Special session could be unavoidable

By Todd Martin

Although they’re in the midst of a nearly two-week reprieve, the mood around Kentucky’s legislators is gloomy.

It’s gloomy because it appears the House and Senate will not be able to approve a budget before they adjourn for the session on April 15.

State Rep. Brad Montell (R-Shelbyville) said a budget is “probably 50-50 at best.”

Sen. Garry Tapp (R-Shelbyville) thinks he’s probably looking at extra days in his final year in Frankfort.
