BOYS’ TENNIS: SCHS loses 1, wins 1

The Shelby County boys’ tennis team lost a rain-shortened match Tuesday, but bounced back by blanking Franklin County on Wednesday at Clear Creek Park.

Visiting Bullitt East beat the Rockets 2-1 Tuesday in a match that was halted after singles play by rain. Shelby County’s lone victory came from junior Andrew Clark, who won 8-1 at No. 3 singles.

The Rockets flogged the Flyers on Wednesday, winning four of the five matches in straight sets.

In singles, senior Ethan Russell won 6-0, 6-1, and at No. 1, his brother, sophomore Jeron Russell, triumphed 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2. Senior Doug Martin was victorious 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3.

In doubles, sophomores Harrison Baldwin and Nick Freeman won 7-6 (7-2), 1-6, 1-0 (11-9) at No. 1, and junior Luke Dove and sophomore Josh Barry triumphed 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2.

Shelby County (13-4) closed out its regular season Thursday against Eastern. The Rockets begin play in the 8th Region Tournament, which will be held at Franklin County, on Monday.
