Joan Brown, formerly with state state Fish and Wildlife, introduced the Great American Bird Count to Karin Ceralde’s AP environmental science class at Shelby County High School. Listening to instructions were (from left) Morgan Allen, Saadya Marshall Walker, Claire Kelley, Destry Aldridge and Jessika Raisor. About 25 students took part in the class assignment during the Presidents Day weekend, when Ceralde reported the students counted 24 species for a total of 463 birds.
