Van Stockum, Miller featured at the Kentucky Book Fair

Shelby County authors Ron Van Stockum and Jim Miller will present their new books at the Kentucky Book Fair on Saturday in Frankfort.

Van Stockum, a Shelby County resident, will present his latest book. Remembrances of World Wars, which is a compilation of columns he published inThe Sentinel-News about World War I and World War II and the times and events surrounding both. Van Stockum lost his father in WWI.

Miller, a native of Shelby County who now lives in New Orleans, will be signing copies of Where The Water Kept Rising, a biography of sorts about his travails at the University of New Orleans, where he was athletic director, following Hurricane Katrina.

The 31st annual book fair will feature the works of 197 authors, from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Frankfort Convention Center.

Veterans event at library

Noble Roberts and Col. Roger Green will lead a Veterans Appreciation Benefit from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Shelby County Public Library’s Hudson Room.

"Wounded Warriors: Heroes with battle scars but no bandages" will host speaker Mike Jeffrey with his service dog, Seal Team. For more information, contact Roberts at 633-2070.

Bagdad Christmas show

The Bagdad Christmas craft/gift show and soup lunch will be at 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Bagdad Ruritan Club. Vendors will be accepted. For more information, contact Norma Bailey at 502-321-4944.

Light Up Simpsonville

Light Up Simpsonville will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 17 near the gazebo outside the Simpsonville Community Center. There will be a chili supper inside the gymnasium and a fireworks show and other activities for kids and families.

Christmas comedy at theater

Performance dates for the Shelby County Community Theatre’s production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, written by Barbara Robinson and directed by Rick Reinle, are Nov. 30-Dec. 2 and Dec. 7-9. The theater is located at 801 Main St. in Shelbyville. For more information, call 633-0222.
