‘Mulan Jr.’ auditions
Auditions for the Disney musical Mulan Jr. will be held at the Shelby County Community Theatre on July 30 and Aug. 1.
Children ages 7-14 should prepare a short song and be prepared to read lines from a script.
Auditions are at 10 a.m. on July 30 and 6 p.m. on Aug. 1 at the theater at 801 Main St. in Shelbyville.
History camp this week
A “World War II Shelby County at Home and Abroad” history camp is 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thusday  at the Shelby County Historical Society.
Campers will learn what was happening in Shelby County and in the world between 1941-1945 and meet veterans from Shelby County who served in the armed forces. In the grand finale, campers will present a USO show on the stage of the Shelby County Community Theatre, full of drama and songs of the war period. Call 633-5473 for more information.
Christian rock concert coming
Mount Pleasant Baptist Church is teaming with WXLN-FM (93.3) to host a free Christian rock concert at the Clear Creek Park Amphitheater in Shelbyville at 4-8 p.m. July 9. The first band will begin at 4 pm, and we will conclude the concert at approximately 8 pm. Three bands have committed: Eden’s Way, Brim and Bone Prophet, but more could join the show
Movie night at Red Orchard
Movie Night is the fourth Saturday of each month. Megamind will play on June 25 at the barn at Red Orchard Park. Bring comfortable chairs or blankets for the ground. Moonlight Big Band to perform
The “Moonlight Big Band” will perform 7:30-10 p.m. on June 27 at My Old Kentucky Home State Park Rotunda in a fundraiser sponsored by the Stephen Foster Music Club. Proceeds are used to send students to the Stephen Foster Music Camp at Eastern Kentucky University. Tickets are $10 and are available in advance at the Bardstown Visitors Center or from music club members. Tickets will also be available at the park the night of the concert. Gurney Norman at library
Spend an evening with guest author Gurney Norman, 2009-2010 Kentucky Poet Laureate, at 6-7 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Shelby County Library. Norman was instrumental in the founding of the Appalachian Poetry Project and the Southern Appalachian Writers Cooperative. His first novel, Divine Right’s Trip was originally published in the margins of the Last Whole Earth Catalog, which sold 2 million copies worldwide. Two short stories written by Norman – Night Ride and Maxine were made into films. Registration is requested for seating purposes only by calling the library (633-3803).

Tuesdays include Baby Time with Ms. Elaine 10-10:30 a.m., ages birth to 2-years-old; Toddler Time with Mrs. Sherry 1:30-2:15 p.m. ages 2-3. Wednesdays with Mrs. Sherry is Toddler Time, 10-10:45 a.m., ages 2-3; Toddler Time, 11-11:45 a.m., ages 2-3; Afterschool, 4-4:45 p.m., grades K-5. Thursdays with Mrs. Sherry include Baby Time, 9:30-10 a.m. and 10:30-11 a.m., ages birth-2-year-olds; preschool, 1:30-2:15 p.m., ages 4-5.
