TAYLORSVILLE – A bizarre story of alleged domestic violence and attempted murder in Mount Eden has become even stranger as the suspect’s nephew now faces charges in the case for attempting to run over the alleged victim with his motorcycle.
Waddy resident Sammy F. Mobley, 36, faces a first-degree wanton endangerment charge in connection with a March 16 incident in which Benjamin W. Mobley, 58, of Murphy Lane allegedly attempted to shoot at and pistol-whip his girlfriend, who is from Mount Eden.
Benjamin Mobley faces charges of first-degree attempted murder – domestic violence; first-degree wanton endangerment and first-degree assault-domestic violence.
According to Sammy Mobley’s arrest warrant, eyewitness accounts claim that he tried to run the victim over with his motorcycle.
“Affiant states that per eyewitnesses and the victim, the defendant tried to run her [the victim] over while she was trying to escape Benjamin Mobley who had physically assaulted her and had shot at her,” according to the warrant.
Court documents state that Benjamin Mobley allegedly instructed Sammy Mobley to “kill the b-tch,” to which Sammy Mobley replied that he did not have a gun. According to the document, Benjamin Mobley then allegedly instructed Sammy Mobley to run the victim over.
The incident occurred at 11 First St. in Mount Eden, according to police.
Kentucky State Police served a warrant for Sammy Mobley’s arrest March 31. As of press time Tuesday, Sammy Mobley was still in custody at the Shelby County Detention Center.
His bond was set at $5,000 cash with the conditions that he has no new arrest violations; no contact with the alleged victim or complaining witness; and no contact with the location of the alleged offense.
Benjamin Mobley was apprehended the evening of the alleged crime at a Bullitt County residence with the assistance of Mount Washington police and the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Department.
He was released from prison March 30 after posting a $49,500 surety bond in the form of property and $500 cash. The bond terms set forth included that Mobley immediately admit himself to Our Lady of Peace psychiatric hospital in Louisville; he may have no contact with the victim or witnesses in the case; he may not be on or about the location of the alleged crime; he may have no further law violations; he may not use alcohol or any illegal controlled substances; he may not possess a weapon; and he may not have any contact with any neighbors located near the vicinity of the crime scene. Shelbyville resident Katie Mobley and Mount Eden resident Larry Mobley were listed as Mobley’s sureties.
Benjamin Mobley’s case was waived to the grand jury March 30 and additional court dates have yet to be set.
Both Sammy Mobley and Benjamin Mobley have entered not guilty pleas.
