Shelby County’s unique animal support group will bring back its unique joint fundraiser on Saturday night, when the third annual Monarchs, Mutts, and Meows Valentine’s Dinner Party is staged at Claudia Sanders Dinner House.
This event, which begins at 6 p.m. and includes the usual dinner, silent auction, dance contest and music by the renowned Monarchs, benefits 5 rescues.org, the coalition of animal rights groups that was formed several years ago and continues to be refined.
The groups – Operation Catsnip, Shelby County Humane Society, Shelby County No-Kill Mission, Tyson’s Chance Animal Foundation and Woodstock Animal Foundation – pool their energies to stage the event, with proceeds equally divided among the five.
“Shelby County is the only area where five animal rescue agencies have successfully worked together on fundraising activities,” said Louise Riley, one of the event organizers. “We’ve been going strong for five years now.”
Each organization needs funds to continue their work on behalf of animals. It takes much time, energy, and money to provide the proper care for the growing animal population.
Monarchs, Mutts, and Meows is only one of the biggest events of the year for these five agencies and has drawn strong crowds in its previous years, but the groups are looking to expand their fund-raising efforts.
Officials of 5Rescues hope to use the event to connect with new corporate partners and from local businesses who want to support a collection of agencies with a single sponsorship. Vicki Moore is coordinating that effort and can be reached at 502-552-4747.
In addition, each group is looking for new volunteers to provide hands-on help at each of the agencies and to develop opportunities to foster dogs or cats or provide “forever homes” to rescued homeless pets.
