Students in Sloane Barnett’s class at Simpsonville Elementary wrote what strategies they used while following along in the text the teacher read about a first-person account of the 9-11 attack on the World Trade Center. After she leaned down to listen to Jaden Outten, she had him report to the class that he focused on retelling because he “needed to gain meaning and I used a prediction to make a guess so I would keep on reading for when ‘that moment’ comes I have been waiting for.”
