60th anniversary: Ben Allen and Emily Thomas

Ben Allen and Emily Thomas of Shelbyville have been married for 60 years. The couple was married on Nov. 8, 1952, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Louisville.


He is 92 and a retired farmer, served on the board of directors of Commonwealth Bank & Trust and former Shelby County Trust Bank, Farm Bureau and Western District Warehousing Corporation and is a member of Cropper Ruritan.

She is 84 and a homemaker who was heavily involved in volunteerism in the community, including 4-H, library board, Kings Daughters and Sons, the Friendship Bible Coffees of Stonecroft Ministries, DAR and the Shelby County Historical Society.

They are parents of Ted Thomas of Shelbyville; Lucy (Thomas) Falconer of Aylesbury, England; Stephen Thomas of Costa Mesa, Calif.; Daniel Thomas of Greeley, Colo. They have nine grandchildren, Sarah Hartman of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; Lydia and Serena Thomas of Shelbyville; Beckham Thomas of Newport Beach, Calif.; Emilie Thomas of San Francisco; Riley Thomas of Irvine, Calif.; Helen Falconer of Aylesbury, England, and the late Andrew Thomas and Thomas Falconer. They also have two great-grandchildren, William and Edward Hartman of Lookout Mountain, Ga.

They were honored Nov. 4 at a reception at Community Presbyterian Church in Louisville.
