Brandon Brown shot a 13-under-par 59 Saturday to set a course record at Shelbyville Country Club.
The previous record was 62, which was jointly held by several golfers, including Brown and his father, Lloyd. Brown an SCHS alumnus who plays on the Nationwide and Hooters tours, shot 31 on the front nine and a 28 on the back nine. “I just got going,” Brown said. “It was a pretty crazy round because I had four eagles. I won’t ever forget that round.” He eagled holes 6, 8, 10 and 17. Brown also had a bogey on No. 7, a par 3. “I just made a few putts on the last holes,” he said. Brown wasn’t expecting to shoot a course record even during the round. His group, which included Austin Hayes, Scott Tipton and A. Thomas Glass, told him as they approached No. 18 that he could score a 59 if he birdied the last hole. So Brown parked his drive 6 inches from the pin. He started the round with three pars and finished birdie-eagle-birdie.
