5 thoughts on UK-Vandy game

Here are five quick thoughts on the University of Kentucky's 60-58 victory at Vanderbilt on Thursday night.

1. Kentucky got lucky. We all know (even if it seemed to take Bob Knight forever to figure it out) that Nerlens Noel shot with 17 seconds left should not have counted because the shot clock had expired before he released the ball. Still, sometimes it takes a little luck to win a road game in the SEC and that's exactly what UK got against the Commodores.

2. John Calipari has finally found his starting lineup. Cal's starting five vs. VU of the four freshmen and Ryan Harrow seems to be the best he's put on the court so far this season. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the same starting five he uses for the rest of the season.

3. The Wildcats were incredibly impressive in the first half. However they were equally as unimpressive in the second half.

4. This just in (not really)...Kyle Wiltjer is woeful on defense. I'm pretty sure that 22 of Vanderbilt's 24 first-half points came from the guys that Wiltjer was guarding. If Vanderbilt can easily expose his slow-footedness on D just imagine what other teams in the SEC will do.

5. Paging Alex Poythress, paging Alex Poythress. Here was his final line: 7 points, 6 rebounds, 5 fouls, 4 turnovers, 23 minutes.
